Thing 13: Online Conference
I watched A Peek for a Week-Inside a Kiwi Junior Classroom from the 2009 K12 Online conference. I wanted to see a glimpse of an actual classroom with technology in force. I certainly did see a wonderful classroom of 6 year olds utilizing several types of technology with great confidence. As I watched, I reflected upon what I could take to my 6th grade classroom. While any of it can be found in a middle school classroom, I found myself seeing the obstacles. This is not a good place to go, but I truly believe in a range of technology being integrated into the classroom in spite of the negativity coming out. What happens is that I get into the the classroom, ready to get going on a lesson with great technology, only to discover that half the sites are blocked. So, I go through the motion to unblock the sites with the technology department who only unblock half because our servers cannot handle online streaming. Okay, so I modify because I will make this happen for the kids. How much time have I spent to do this? It was so easy from home, but the school district is not that accommodating. It’s a fact of life that I would been more ready for me and my ideas.
